Second Graders Use "Bee Fingers" to Learn About Bees and Pollinations

North Pollination activityNorth Elementary second graders are learning about bees and pollination in preparation for the pollinator garden they will plant soon, thanks to a grant from the WSISD Education Foundation.

Students flew their "bee fingers" around the classroom, dipped the bees in pollen (aka Koolaid), and then landed them on different flowers.

The activity simulated how pollen attaches to the bee body as they're collecting nectar from flowers, and some of the pollen falls off and fertilizes the flowers.

Students then wrote what they learned about pollination and the importance of bees and read their writing to the class.
