Twenty-two members of the White Settlement ISD team recently attended the Bilingual/ESL Education Association of the Metroplex (BEAM) Symposium. They attended various sessions regarding dual language and English Learners programs.
Liberty Elementary teacher Vanessa Olivares, the 2018 BEAM Teacher of the Year, was invited to serve on the symposium’s Distinguished Educators Panel. She received a $1,000 BEAM scholarship towards her graduate degree.
Liberty Elementary fourth grade Dual Language teachers Cristina Barnett and Steven Dexter presented one of the sessions, “Collaboration and Technology in Our Dual Language Classrooms.”
WSISD Bilingual/ESL Director Amy Ferguson and Dual Language Specialist Eva Valenzuela serve on the BEAM Symposium Executive Board and Planning Committee.
And, Liberty Assistant Principal Courtney Harbuck recruited bilingual teachers and shared information with university staff and students about the WSISD Dual Language program.
