Teams from Blue Haze and North Elementaries and the Fine Arts Academy (FAA) competed in the Destination Imagination Regional Tournament on Feb. 23.
FAA students competed in the On Target Challenge for Secondary. Beckett Vaughn, Ryan Belcher, Caden Dorasami and Saphira Hampton earned fifth and Andrew McDonald, Dani Clayton and Brayden Squires, sixth. Coach is Loretta Haley.
North Elementary fourth graders Haylie Jimenez, Sophie Cantu, Jonathan Obert, Gabriel Starling, Isaiah Stephens, Hayden Prachyl and Rex Velasquez took fifth out of 16 teams.
For the On Target Challenge, teams must create devices that launch and drop five different items as a payload into small areas for different point values.
"Our students built five launchers and rockets to help execute their launches and payload drops," said North Elementary Coach Jessica Joergensen.
Students were also tasked with creating a skit located in a remote place with interesting characters.
"Our team came up with a Peter Pan skit where they were on Skull Island in Neverland, trying to save Tiger Lily from the evil Captain Hook and Mr. Smee," she said.
